Expert meetings form a part of Russia-EU political dialogue. More than 20 meetings of this kind are held annually - mainly in Brussels - on topical international issues. At the meetings Russia is represented by experts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' appropriate departments. European Union - by the Presidency, the General Secretariat of the Council and the Commission.
Consultations on Enlargement and Countries Negotiating Accession to the European Union (COELA), on the Western Balkans Region (COWEB), on Human Rights (COHOM), on Conventional Arms Exports (COARM), on Global Disarmament and Arms Control (CODUN) and on Non-Proliferation (CONOP), on the OSCE and the Council of Europe (COSCE), on fight against terrorism (COTER), on Eastern Europe and Central Asia (COEST), on Middle East/Gulf (COMEM) and on the Middle East Peace Process (COMEP) and on Mashrek/Maghreb (COMAG), on the United Nations (CONUN), on Asia-Oceania (COASI) are being held twice a year (during each Presidency of the EU). Expert meetings on Latin America and the Caribbean (COLAT) - annually (traditionally in the second half of the year).
