Russia – EU Regular Expert Consultations on the Western Balkans and EU Enlargement

On June 9, 2015 regular Russia – EU expert-level consultations on the Western Balkans (COWEB) and EU Enlargement (COELA) were held in Brussels within the established framework of the Russia – EU Political Dialogue.

Ambassador Alexandr Botsan-Kharchenko, Director of the 4th European Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led the Russian delegation. The EU was represented by Mr. Eduard Auer, Head of Division for Western Balkans of the European External Action Service (EEAS), and Ms Ilze Rūse, Director of the European Department of the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

A constructive discussion took place on a broad range of issues of the current Balkans agenda, in particular in the light of bilateral cooperation of candidates and potential candidates for EU membership with Russia. 

The next round of the COWEB / COELA consultations is scheduled for the second half of 2015.
