Education

Cooperation between Russia and the EU in the field of education is carried out in accordance with the principles of the Bologna process of the Council of Europe with a view to improve the quality, transparency, comparability and competitiveness of educational systems within the Pan-European higher education area.

The inauguration of the European Studies Institute (ESI) in Moscow on the basis of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (University) of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 25 September 2006 in cooperation with the European Commission and the College of Europe was a remarkable practical result of Russia-EU cooperation in the area of education. Educational standards, study materials, forms and methods of teaching in the ESI are elaborated in accordance with the highest standards of training of EU universities.

Great importance is attached to exchange of experience in the field of training interpreters and translators. The Saint-Petersburg School of Conference Interpreting and Translation was established on the basis of the Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia in St. Petersburg as a result of cooperation between the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the European Commission. Moreover, cooperation between the Linguistic Support Department of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Directorate-General for translation of the European Commission has been launched.

Russian students enjoy student exchange opportunities with universities of EU countries provided under the framework of the EU educational programme “Erasmus Plus”.
