On 22 June 2023, Kirill Logvinov, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Russian Mission to the EU, and Igor Kolodin, Defence Attaché of the Russian Embassy in Belgium, laid flowers at the monument to Soviet citizens who had died in the fight against Nazism at the communal cemetery in Evere, Brussels.
Today, as 82 years ago, a genuinely "total war" has been unleashed against our Motherland. As back then, it has stemmed from an ideology of superiority, a belief in exceptionalism and a desire to impose one's own "order". All this, alas, is common to the current political elites of the European Union and its Member States, who seem to have failed to draw appropriate conclusions from the lessons of the Second World War.
On the occasion of 22 June, we want to assure today's political revanchists that Russia will not allow the results of the Second World War to be erased and the memory of our grandfathers and great grandfathers, who sacrificed their lives to save Europe from Nazism, to be forgotten. We deem it necessary to remind all those who continue to supply Ukraine with deadly weapons of their historic responsibility to the peoples of the Soviet Union for the crimes committed during the Great Patriotic War. With their actions, European politicians have put at stake the historic reconciliation that was achieved thanks to our goodwill and the wisdom of the preceding generation of Europeans. It is in fact a denial by the West of its own history. We urge those who have taken the path of military confrontation with Russia to recall the way it has always ended for them.
