On June 9, State Secretary and Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin met with the visiting co-chairs of the Geneva International Discussions on Security and Stability in the South Caucasus – EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Herbert Salber, UN Representative Antti Turunen and Special Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office for the South Caucasus Gunther Bachler.

The participants exchanged views on security in the South Caucasus, the situation on Abkhazia’s and South Ossetia’s borders with Georgia, and the preparations for a new round of talks in Geneva scheduled for June 20-21.

The Russian diplomat warned that the provocations Georgia is making at international venues, in particular the UN, pose a danger to the effective continuation of the Geneva International Discussions.

The participants reaffirmed their common commitment to actively promote depoliticising the work in the Geneva format to reach tangible results, primarily concerning the non-use of force.
