With the adoption of the 11th sanctions "package", the economic war unleashed by the European Union and its Member States against Russia has, as expected, reached a whole new level. Having developed a so-called “sanctions anti-circumvention tool”, Brussels now intends to drag the widest possible part of the world into its war. This marks a shift from a failed blitzkrieg, aimed at inflicting irreparable damage on Russia, to a multi-pronged game with a view to imposing a kind of economic blockade against our country. Hardly anyone expects Brussels to make every diplomatic effort to persuade third countries to comply with the sanctions regime within the “tool” announced. The EU has traditionally favoured blackmail and coercion. As the EU remains the largest economic partner, investor and financial donor for many countries, Brussels certainly still has plenty of leverage. Therefore, the EU's "fight against sanctions circumvention" promises to be protracted and uncompromising.
