Permanent Mission of Russia to the EU hosted a reception dedicated to Russian chairmanship in the CIS in 2024. The event brought together heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Brussels from about 50 countries of the Global Majority, as well as a number of regional and international organisations (Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, African Union) and the Secretariat of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States.

The participants listened to the address by the President of Russia on the occasion of the chairmanship.

In his welcoming speech, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Russian Mission to the EU Kirill Logvinov, building on the provisions of the Chairmanship Concept approved by the Russian President, outlined that the current geopolitical situation, marked among other things by the West's incessant attempts to slow down the objective development of a multipolar world by all means, including illegitimate ones, has revealed additional opportunities for the gradual strengthening of multifaceted partnerships to form a Greater Eurasia. The official emphasised that Russia's chairmanship of the CIS is based on our country's special role in efforts to deepen integration processes in Eurasia. Chargé d’Affaires a.i. stressed that the Russian Chairmanship attaches the highest priority to preserving historical memory and working together against the growing attempts in the West to revise the history of the Second World War and to glorify Nazism. Kirill Logvinov welcomed the interest of the states of the Global Majority in building their relations with the CIS and its members in accordance with international law, on the basis of equality, mutual respect of interests and common approaches to solving international and regional problems.

A booklet containing the text of the Concept and Priorities of the Chairmanship, approved by the President of the Russian Federation, as well as information on the activities of the CIS was distributed among the guests.

Attending diplomats had an opportunity to get acquainted with a special issue of the magazine “Human Rights. Topical Aspects of Judicial and Law Enforcement Practice”, prepared by the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office and dedicated to the Special Military Operation, anti-Russian sanctions and crimes committed by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

An exhibition "Euromaidan: Essence and Consequences of the 2013-2014 Anti-Constitutional Coup d'Etat in Ukraine” was organized at the Russian Mission.

Two documentaries were shown during the reception dedicated to the 10th anniversary of Crimea’s reunification with Russia and the Elbe Day of 25 April 1945.
