Russian Delegation Participated in the 4th European Civil Protection Forum

A delegation from the Russian Ministry for Civil Defence, Emergencies and Disaster Relief (EMERCOM) headed by Mr. Mikhail Faleev, Head of the Centre for Civil Protection Strategic Studies participated in the 4th European Civil Protection Forum held on 15-16 May 2013 in Brussels.

During the Forum a new EU Emergency Response Centre (ERC) was inaugurated and an on-line videoconference was held with the Russian National Emergency Management Centre (NEMC) with participation of Mr. Vladimir Puchkov, Minister for Civil Defence, Emergencies and Disaster Relief, Mr. José Manuel Durão Barroso, President of the European Commission and Ms Kristalina Georgieva, Commissioner for International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response.

Ambassador Vladimir Chizhov, Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the European Union, visited the ERC. He was briefed on the Centre’s capabilities, congratulated the EU with this significant event in ensuring the safety of European citizens and expressed hope for further fruitful cooperation of the European Commission’s civil protection structures with EMERCOM and the Russian NEMC.
