Brussels hosts a series of events in the framework of Russian Presidency of the Council of the Baltic Sea States

On 29-30 January 2013 a meeting of the Committee of Senior Officials of the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS CSO) and consultations of the CSO with the European External Action Service and relevant European Commission DGs took place in Brussels under Russian Presidency.

Detailed consideration was given to implementation of the priorities of Russian CBSS Presidency:

  • development of cooperation in the field of modernisation and innovation with focus on clusters of growth and with the prospect of establishing regional partnership in this sector;
  • establishment of a network of public-private partnership (PPP) with a view to shaping «the Baltic PPP space» as a platform for sustainable growth and setting up a regional private equity fund;
  • promotion of traditions of tolerance as a means to combat the tendencies of radicalism and extremism;
  • promotion of people-to-people contacts and visa facilitation.

Russia considers the CBSS as a full-pledged international organisation creating a space of trust, good neighbourship, stability and sustainable development in the region and as a most promising format for executing common Russia-EU projects in the Baltic region.

At a meeting of the Permanent Committee of the Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference held in Brussels on 31 January with participation of a delegation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation lead by Ms Valentina Pivnenko, Deputy of the State Duma, the Russian Presidency presented a keynote report which was met with great interest of parliamentarians of Baltic Sea states.
