Reception on the Occasion of the Forthcoming Second Russia-Africa Summit

On 16 May 2023, a reception on the occasion of the forthcoming Second Russia-Africa Summit (to be held in St. Petersburg on 26-29 July 2023) and the Africa Day was organised at the Permanent Mission of Russia to the European Union.

The event brought together heads of diplomatic missions from some 20 African countries and regional associations – the African Union and the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States.

In his welcoming speech, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Russian Mission to the EU Kirill Logvinov said that the Russian Federation has a long history of relations with the African states built on mutual respect and understanding of diversity, interests, needs, history and culture of each other. Highlighting the provisions of the updated Russian Foreign Policy Concept, he stressed that the St. Petersburg Summit is important not only for further deepening our multifaceted and mutually beneficial cooperation, but also has great potential for improving the situation in the international arena and addressing real issues related to people’s well-being.

The guests watched a video on the outcomes of the First Russia-Africa Summit held in Sochi and received leaflets prepared for the second edition of the forum.

The reception participants also viewed an exhibition dedicated to the Great Patriotic War and liberating Europe from Nazism on display in the Mission.
