Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the EU Vladimir Chizhov Takes Part in the Book Launch of “Principled Pragmatism in Practice: the EU’s Policy towards Russia after Crimea”

On 10 November 2021 the Ghent University of Belgium hosted a presentation of a collection of academic articles by Russian and West European political scientists “Principled Pragmatism in Practice: the EU’s Policy towards Russia after Crimea”, attended by Russian Permanent Representative to the European Union Ambassador Vladimir Chizhov.

In his keynote speech the Russian diplomat welcomed the depth of the contributors’ analysis of history, current unsatisfactory state and prospects of Russia – EU relations, and stressed that the interests of both parties would be best served by developing cooperation on the basis of equality and respect for each other's positions. Moreover, these issues cannot be fully addressed without taking into account economic aspects of bilateral cooperation. In a broader context, the Ambassador emphasised the unacceptability of imposition by certain members of the international community of a notorious “rules-based world order” at the expense of universal principles embodied in the UN Charter.
