Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko in Telephone Conversation with Co-Chair of Geneva International Discussions on Security and Stability in the South Caucasus, EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Toivo Klaar

On 9 February 2021 Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko had a telephone conversation with Co-Chair of Geneva International Discussions on Security and Stability in the South Caucasus, EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Toivo Klaar.

The situation in the South Caucasus and prospects of Geneva International Discussions on Security and Stability in the South Caucasus were discussed. The parties reaffirmed their commitment to continue efforts aimed at easing tensions in the Sukhum-Tbilisi-Tskhinval triangle.

In the context of exchange of views on the state of affairs in the Georgia-South Ossetia border area, the Russian side stressed the need to prevent cases of illegal crossing of the state border and address such incidents in a politically unbiased way within the existing negotiation formats, including the Ergneti Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism.

The issue of Nagorno-Karabakh settlement was also touched upon.
