Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov Meets Ambassadors of EU Member States and the Head of the EU Delegation to Russia

On 15 July 2020 Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met in Moscow with heads of diplomatic missions of EU Member States and the Head of the European Union Delegation to Russia.

The current state and prospects of developing Russia-EU relations were discussed in detail, including cooperation in overcoming consequences of the coronavirus pandemic. Sergey Lavrov stressed that it is counter-productive for the EU to set the agenda of dialogue with Russia unilaterally and build its policy towards our country on the principle of “lowest common denominator”. It was emphasised that in today’s multilateral world Russian and EU interests would be best served by joint elaboration of cooperative strategy amid volatility of global processes.

Topical international issues were also addressed with a focus on the situation in Libya, Venezuela, prospects of Belgrade-Prishtina dialogue, as well as developments around the JCPOA on the Iranian nuclear programme. In the context of the internal Ukrainian conflict Sergey Lavrov urged the EU to actively facilitate full and unconditional implementation by Kiev of its obligations under the Minsk Agreements as well as ensuring non-discriminatory linguistic and educational rights for all Ukrainian residents.
