Russia-EU: Conference on Protection of Personal Data

A Russia-EU Conference on protection of personal data was held in The Hague on 19-20 October 2010, preceding the start of negotiations on an operational cooperation agreement between Russia and Europol and the next round of negotiations on a Russia-Eurojust cooperation agreement. The Conference was opened by Mr. V.Likhachev, Deputy Minister of Justice of the Russian Federation, and Mr. M.Quillé, Deputy Director of Europol.

Representatives of ten Russian ministries and agencies participating in the Conference presented to their EU colleagues comprehensive information on the legal framework for protection of personal data and its practical implementation in Russia. The participants also discussed ways and methods for securing citizens’ right for privacy in the course of law enforcement cooperation between Russia and the EU.
