Comment by the Information and Press Department of the Russian MFA on the 5th anniversary of the tragic events of 2 May 2014 in Odessa

5 years have passed since the bloody events of 2 May 2014, when not less than 50 innocent people were burned alive and hundreds injured as a result of outrage of Ukrainian radicals in the Odessa House of Trade Unions.  This bone-chilling tragedy that struck the whole civilized world was the result of the policy of Ukrainian nationalist forces that managed to seize power through a coup d’etat.

Years later the instigators and perpetrators of this loathsome crime remain unidentified. In spite of appeals by international organisations and human rights NGOs to conduct a thorough investigation Kiev persistently hampers it. All this enables us to say that Ukrainian leadership was involved in those terrible events. It is especially cynical that Ukrainian law enforcement authorities keep  prosecuting those who managed to escape from fascist thugs.

Western supervisors of the Kiev regime keep their vow of silence. Obviously, it is not in their interest to admit that under their auspices there are forces at the helm of the country who have blood all over their hands. Instead of genuinely demanding that Ukrainian authorities find and punish those responsible for the bestial crimes in the House of Trade Unions through 5 years we have only been hearing from Western partners reasoning about the high level of democracy of their protégés.

Paying tribute to the victims of the Odessa massacre, we do not lose hope that conditions will still be created in Ukraine under which the country’s authorities will find the necessary strength to conduct an objective and impartial investigation of the events of 2 May 2014, resulting in bringing all those involved to justice.
