Russia – EU expert consultations on OSCE and Council of Europe issues

Consultations between Russia and the EU on OSCE and Council of Europe issues took place in Brussels on 14 March 2019. The Russian delegation was led by Deputy Directors of the European Multilateral Cooperation Department of the Russian MFA Alexey Politshchuk and Ilya Subbotin. Audrone Perkauskiene, Head of the European External Action Service (EEAS) Division for Eastern Partnership, Regional Cooperation and OSCE, and Ellis Mathews, Head of the EEAS Division for Multilateral Relations, represented the EU side.

The parties discussed topical issues of the functioning of the OSCE, included those related to settlement of the Ukrainian internal conflict, and work of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission in Ukraine.

Prospects of resolution of the systemic crisis in the Council of Europe were also in the focus of consultations. The participants agreed on the need to preserve the pan-European character of the Organisation.
