Session of the Russia – EU Joint Science and Technology Cooperation Committee


On 28 September 2018 a regular session of the Russia-European Union Joint Science and Technology Cooperation Committee was held in Moscow at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation. The parties agreed to continue mutually beneficial science and technology (S&T) cooperation in a wide range of areas, as well as to prolong the Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Science and Technology between the Government of the Russian Federation and the European Community of 16 November 2000.

The session was co-chaired by Mikhail Romanovsky, Director of the Department of State Science, Technology and Innovation Policy of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, and Maria Cristina Russo, Director for International Cooperation of the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation of the European Commission.

Russia – EU Joint Science and Technology Cooperation Committee has become over the years an established format for comparing notes on the main vectors of S&T cooperation between the Russian Federation and the European Union. The Joint Committee alternates its annual meetings between Russia and the EU. Alexey Medvedev, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, and Markus Ederer, EU Permanent Representative to the Russian Federation, welcomed the participants of the session.

The participants discussed the implementation of the Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Science and Technology between the Government of the Russian Federation and the European Community as well as outlined plans for development of S&T cooperation beyond 2020. Russian and European experts paid special attention to the results and prospects of development of the scientific research dialogue within the framework of "Horizon 2020" and ERA-Net.RUS Plus programmes, as well as opportunities for scientific cooperation in healthcare, aeronautics, research infrastructure, etc.

The next session of the Russia-European Union Joint Science and Technology Cooperation Committee will be held in Brussels in 2019.
