Russian and EU parliamentarians meet in Moscow


A regular meeting of the Working Group of the Russia-EU Parliamentary Cooperation Committee, dedicated to elections and migration issues, took place in Moscow on 4 April 2012, co-chaired by Mr. Andrey Klimov, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee for International Affairs of the State Duma, and Mr. Knut Flekenstein, Head of the European Parliament Delegation for relations with Russia.

The discussion on the situation after parliamentary and presidential elections in Russia was attended by members of the Russian Federal Assembly and the European Parliament, representatives of the Russian Central Electoral Commission, political parties «Yabloko», «Pravoye Delo», «Patrioty Rossii» and NGO «Golos».

The migration session with participation of experts from the Russian Federal Migration Service examined the progress of the Russia-EU Dialogue on Migration, perspectives of transition to visa-free travel of Russian and EU citizens. Russian parliamentarians emphasized the need of prompt abolition of visas between Russia and EU and called upon members of the European Parliament to contribute to reaching this objective.

The next meeting of the PCC Working Group, dedicated to foreign policy issues, is scheduled for 23-24 May 2012 in Strasbourg.
