Russia and EU hold an expert meeting on anti-corruption


The first Russia-EU expert meeting on anti-corruption took place on 21 December 2011 in Moscow.

The Russian delegation led by Mikhail Galperin, Acting Director of Department of International Law and Cooperation of the Ministry of Justice, was composed of experts from Foreign Affairs, Interior and Economic Development Ministries, Federal Security Service, Presidential Administration, Office of the Prosecutor General, Investigative Committee and Permanent Mission to the EU. The EU delegation was led by Michael Webb, Deputy Head of Mission to Russia, and comprised experts from the Commission, EEAS, Romania and Sweden.

Participants exchanged views on corruption problems in EU Member States and Russia and discussed approaches to preventing, identifying and combating them. They touched upon issues of civil society involvement in preventing and combating this phenomenon.

The meeting was organised within the framework of agreements reached at the Russia-EU Permanent Partnership Council on Freedom, Security and Justice held on 10 and 11 October 2011 in Warsaw. The Parties agreed to continue developing their anti-corruption cooperation.
