Joint Seminar of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation and the European Economic and Social Committee

On 27 September 2017 the 7^th Joint Seminar of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation and the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) was held in Brussels. Cooperation between the leading civil society institutions of Russia and the EU was launched in 2008 by signing of the bilateral Memorandum of Understanding. Joint seminars were held on an annual basis. In 2014 such interaction was suspended upon EU initiative.

The seminar was opened by Secretary of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation Valery Fadeev, President of the EESC Georghios Dassis, Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the EU and Euratom Ambassador Vladimir Chizhov and Director of the European External Action Service for Russia, Eastern Partnership, Central Asia and OSCE Luc Devigne.

The participants of the seminar discussed priorities of Russia-EU cooperation in areas of higher education, science, research and innovations, as well as issues of rural development which is relevant to both parties, including in the context of implementation of the Russia-EU cross-border cooperation programmes. Joint conclusions were adopted as a result of the seminar.
