Annual meeting of the Joint Russia-EU Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation

An annual meeting of the Joint Russia - EU Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation was held in Brussels on 29 June 2011.

The Russian delegation was led by Deputy Minister of Science and Education of Russia, Sergey Ivanets, the EU delegation - by European Commission Director General on Research and Innovation, R.-J. Smits. The Parties discussed results of joint activities in implementing the Agreement between Russia and the EU on scientific and technical cooperation, prospects for enhancing bilateral cooperation, including in the framework of the “Partnership for Modernisation” initiative, and adopted a work plan of the Joint Committee for 2011-2013.

During the meeting speakers highly appreciated the results of bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation between Russia and the EU in the field of research. Both sides also exchanged proposals to increase mutual efforts in the area of joint research projects.

The event demonstrated the dynamic character of bilateral interaction and the optimal use of existing mechanisms of cooperation and their autonomy to address current challenges that the Russia-EU S&T Committee is facing.
