Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov Meets with Foreign Ministers of EU Member States and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton

In accordance with the schedule of Russia-EU political dialogue, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov had a meeting with the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the European Union member states (in the 1+27 format) and EU High Representative Catherine Ashton in New York on September 22 in the framework of the 65th session of the UN General Assembly.

An exchange of views took place on the situation in the OSCE and on progress in the preparations for a summit of the Organization in Astana (December 1-2, 2010).

The Ministers substantively and frankly discussed the progress made in carrying out the decisions of the Russia-EU summit in Rostov-on-Don on May 31-June 1, 2010. They focused mainly on the Partnership for Modernization, the issues of transition to a visa-free regime, and prospects for cooperation in the area of crisis management.

The meeting also touched upon topical international problems, including reinvigoration of efforts to resolve the frozen conflicts in Europe and the situation in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
