Experts discuss Russia-EU cooperation on information and communication technologies

On 19 May experts on information and communication technologies (ICT) from the Russian Federation and the European Union took part in a video conference to discuss topical cooperation issues. Coordination of radio spectrum management, copyright and its enforcement in a digital context, and internationalisation of Internet governance were among the key issues of the agenda. The meeting was co-chaired by Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Telecom and Mass Communications of the Russian Federation Mr Vyacheslav Romanov, and Head of Unit "International" of the European Commission Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology Mr Eddy Hartog.

This video conference was the first contact between ICT experts since July 2013, and is considered a crucial step towards restoring cooperation within the framework of the Russia – EU Dialogue on Information Society established in 2005.

The Parties agreed to continue discussions on issues of mutual interest, including EU experience in creating a Digital Single Market. It is commonly understood that Russia - EU working contacts are essential for the successful development of the ICT industry. The next expert meeting may take place in the second half of the year.
