Press release on the ceasefire in southeastern Ukraine

On September 4, the Trilateral Contact Group on Ukraine held a videoconference involving representatives of Donbass, the Joint Centre for Control and Coordination and the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine to assess the results of the ceasefire agreement after the beginning of the new academic year.

The consensus was that, despite certain violations whose number has decreased multi-fold since late August 2015, the overall ceasefire plan is being maintained in general. In this connection, the concerned parties noted the need to include Donbass representatives in the work of the Joint Centre for Control and Coordination to aid the centre in accomplishing its objectives more effectively. They also reached agreement on the need to prevent new attacks, especially to allow restoring vital infrastructure facilities on both sides of the demarcation line before the winter and to create more favourable conditions for a political settlement in southeastern Ukraine.

Russia reaffirms its firm determination to continue efforts to facilitate the complete and precise implementation of the provisions of the February 12, 2015 Minsk agreements in the interests of restoring peace and stability in Ukraine.

The Contact Group is to hold its next meeting in Minsk on September 8, 2015.
