Comment by the Information and Press Department on a ceasefire regime in southeastern Ukraine

On September 1, the Contact Group held a meeting in a video conference format with representatives from Donbass, the Joint Coordination and Control Centre, and the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to review the results of an earlier ceasefire agreement achieved by the sides in connection with the start of the new academic year.

Meeting participants reviewed the consistent decline in the number of ceasefire violations starting on August 28 and the lack of violations on September 1 as of noon MMT.

In this regard, the participants agreed that it was important to further maintain peace and quiet order.

Russia regards this event as an important step towards implementing the provisions of the Minsk Agreements of February 12, 2015, and in this connection intends to continue taking the necessary steps to achieve a peace settlement in Ukraine that meets the interests of all its citizens.

The Contact Group will meet again on September 4 to review the implementation of the said agreement.
