Joint Russia-EU Committee on Cooperation in the Field of Science and Technology holds regular meeting in Brussels

The Joint Russia-EU Committee on Cooperation in the Field of Science and Technology had a regular meeting in Brussels on 19 June 2015. Comprehensive reports were delivered by Mr. Sergey Salikhov, Director of the Department of Science and Technology of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science, and Ms Christina Russo, Director for International Cooperation of the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation of the European Commission. The parties deliberated Russian and EU approaches to cooperation in the field of S&T and discussed main development tendencies of flagship programmes on advancing science and high technologies.

On the margins of JCCST, meetings of Thematic Research working groups (on aeronautics, biotechnology, environmental protection and climate change, scientific mobility, research infrastructure, nuclear energy) were held, addressing practical issues of cooperation between research institutions.

The JCCST meeting was attended by representatives of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science and the European Commission, NRC “Kurchatov Institute”, Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, TsAGI, Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology, State Research Institute “Genetika” and several universities, including MISIS, Moscow State University, ITMO, HSE and European Institute of Technology (ETI).

The Joint Russia-EU Committee on Cooperation in the Field of Science and Technology was established under the Agreement on Cooperation in Science and Technology between the Government of the Russian Federation and the European Community of 16 November 2000. Within the framework of the JCCST consultations are held on ways to enhance scientific and technical cooperation. The Committee holds its meetings once a year alternately in Russia and in the EU.
