Ambassador Vladimir Chizhov meets Elmar Brok, Chairman of the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs

On 4 June 2015 in the European Parliament Ambassador Vladimir Chizhov, the Permanent Representative of Russia to the European Union, met Elmar Brok, Chairman of the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs. Othmar Karas, Head of the European Parliament’s Delegation to the Russia–EU Parliamentary Cooperation Committee, was also present at the meeting.

Ambassador Vladimir Chizhov provided E.Brok with necessary clarifications regarding the transfer of the Russian sanctions list to EU representatives. Both Parties took a negative view of the dissemination in the media of confidential information containing personal data. The Ambassador expressed his apprehension at the noisy campaign launched following the deliberate leak of the “stop-list”, whose existence the European Parliament and other EU institutions had been well aware of. He pointed out that, as the Russian “stop-list” has been adopted as a responsive measure, its revision, including with regard to MEPs concerned, is conditional on the lifting of unilateral unfounded measures adopted earlier by the European Union against Russian citizens, including members of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.
