MFA Spokesman Alexander Lukashevich on the statement by Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevicius on lethal arms supplies to Ukraine

Reply by Foreign Ministry Spokesman Alexander Lukashevich to the media's question on the statement by Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevicius on lethal arms supplies to Ukraine

Question: In a recent interview with the Austrian newspaper Die Presse, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevicius publicly admitted that his country supplied Ukraine with lethal weapons. What could you say on this score?

Answer: The overly militaristic line pursued by Vilnius in the domestic Ukrainian conflict is an open secret. Now the Lithuanian leaders admitted its military support for the party of war in Kiev, which is certainly very alarming.

The timing does not seem to be accidental either. Mr Linkevicius made his statement literally on the eve of the Normandy format meeting held in Minsk on February 12. This looks like an attempt to impede the talks preparations, which were difficult as it were.

Russia resolutely condemns these provocative actions by the Lithuanian authorities, which are doing damage to the much-suffering Ukrainian people and undermining the important efforts by Russia and representatives of the European Union and the OSCE to put the armed confrontation in the southeast of Ukraine on the track toward a peaceful settlement.
