Meeting of the Joint EU-Russia science and technology Cooperation Committee in Moscow


On the 20 June 2014, the Director of the Department of Science and Technology of the Ministry of Education and Science S.V.Salihov and the Director for International Cooperation of the Directorate General for Research and Innovation of the European Commission С.Russo co-chaired a regular meeting of the Joint EU-Russia science and technology Cooperation Committee (JSTC). The meeting was opened by welcome speeches of the Deputy Minister of Education and Science Mrs.L.M.Ogorodova and the Head of Delegation of the EU to Russia Mr. V. UŠACKAS to the participants of the JSTC.

At the meeting the Parties noted the successful development of mutually beneficial cooperation in scientific and technological sphere and set targets for further implementation of the EU-Russia Agreement on Cooperation in Science and Technology signed in November 2000 (the Parties extended the Agreement for the next five-year period in early 2014).

The Parties considered possibilities of scientific and technical cooperation between Russia and the EU, using mechanisms provided for in the Federal Target Program “Research and development in priority fields of scientific and technological complex of Russia for 2014-2020” and the EU programme for research and innovation “Horizon 2020”. The JSTC commended progress in implementation of the joint EU-Russia Year of Science 2014; in its framework 215 events have already taken place and another 150 are scheduled before the end of the year (the official closing ceremony of the "Year of Science" and Science and Technology Forum EU-Russia will take place in Brussels on 24-25 November, 2014).
