President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso.

The President of Russia and the President of the European Commission exchanged views on the crisis in Ukraine, on Kiev repaying its debt for Russian natural gas and on the planned signing of an Association Agreement between the European Union and Ukraine.

Vladimir Putin stressed that Kiev should immediately stop military operations in the southeast of the country.

The parties also agreed to hold consultations between Russia, the European Union and Ukraine at expert and ministerial level within the context of the Association Agreement to be signed by the EU and Ukraine.
