All-Russian Youth Symphony Orchestra in Brussels

On 20 June 2014 the All-Russian Youth Symphony Orchestra under direction of its founder, artistic director and chief conductor Yuri Bashmet will give a concert in the Flagey concert hall in Brussels.

In June 2014 the All-Russian Youth Symphony Orchestra comprising 90 musicians aged 10 to 22 from over 35 cities of Russia will leave for its first international tour. The Orchestra will hold concerts in St. Petersburg, Moscow, Brussels, Geneva and Berlin.

The programme of the forthcoming tour features works by Russian composers from different eras. Alexander Tchaikovsky’s Studies in Simple Tones dedicated to Yuri Bashmet will be performed along with such famous works as Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony and overture to Khovanshchina opera by Modest Mussorgsky. Yuri Bashmet and Alexander Tchaikovsky will perform the solo piano parts. Italian conductor Claudio Vandelli will also participate in the upcoming tour concerts.

The All-Russian Youth Symphony Orchestra under direction of maestro Yuri Bashmet was founded in 2012. It was formed based on the unique by its idea and scale nationwide classical music competition and has no analogues in the Russian history.

The qualifying rounds of the national competition were held during seven months in all federal districts of Russia. Over the whole time the competition has attracted over 1500 students from children’s music schools, children’s art schools and music academies and conservatories from different cities. First concerts were held on 28 and 29 November in Sochi. In late October 2013 the orchestra went for the first concert tour. The concerts under this first Russian tour took place in Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, Perm and Yekaterinburg. In February 2014 the All-Russian Youth Symphony Orchestra took part in the closing ceremony of the XXII Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.

With no doubt, the upcoming concert by the All-Russian Youth Symphony Orchestra in Brussels and the tour on the whole will be a big event in the cultural life both of our country and Europe.
