Russia-EU consultations on drugs


The annual expert consultations on drugs within the framework of Russia-EU political dialogue were held in Brussels on 10 September 2013.

The Russian delegation led by Mr. Vladimir Andreev, Deputy Director of the Department on New Challenges and Threats of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, included experts of the Federal Drug Control Service, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Public Health and Social Development, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Permanent Mission to the EU. The EU was represented at the meeting by experts of the Lithuanian Presidency, European Commission, EEAS, Europol, the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA) as well as by representatives from several Member States.

Participants of the meeting discussed a wide range of issues including drug situation in the EU and Russia, drug trafficking from Afghanistan, problems of spreading of new synthetic drugs and psychoactive substances and misuse of prescribed medicines.

The EU delegation acquainted the Russian colleagues with basic provisions of the new EU Drug Strategy for 2013-2020 and the EU Action Plan on Drugs for 2013-2016.

Both sides outlined new directions of the cooperation on the anti-drug track.
