1 September marks the 80th anniversary of the beginning of World War II, the greatest tragedy of the 20th century that took more than 50 million lives. As far as we understand, Poland is to host various events on this occasion, with participation of those countries whose connivance prompted invasion of German troops into Poland. Actually, the then leaders of France and Great Britain, prime ministers Edouard Daladier and Neville Chamberlain, together with their Nazi partners had agreed back on 30 September 1938 that they would not impede dismemberment of Czechoslovakia indulging Hitler’s rapacious plans. The desire of France and Great Britain to ensure their own security at the expense of security of others, their refusal to cooperate with the Soviet Union in establishing a collective security system led to an unimpeded partition of Czechoslovakia in 1938, then within a year – to the aggression against Poland and later, in 1940 to the occupation of France itself.

In this context festive commemoration of the beginning of World War II looks quite bizarre. We believe that what must be celebrated is the end of the war with complete Victory over Nazism. The 75th anniversary of this happy event will be broadly celebrated on 9 May 2020 in Moscow and many other cities.
