On 5 February 2018 Moscow hosted an International Conference “Social and Economic Inequality – Global Challenge of Today”, organised by the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation and the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC). The panel was co-chaired by Secretary of the Civic Chamber of the Russia Valery Fadeev and EESC President Georghios Dassis (Greece).
The event focused on key factors of persisting inequality, evaluating the efficiency of measures taken to fight poverty and promote inclusive growth. The participants discussed the role civil society institutes play to address the problem of social and economic inequality as one of the major challenges of today.
The decision to hold the Conference had been taken on 27 September 2017 during the Joint Seminar organised by the Civic Chamber of Russia and the EESC in Brussels.
