On December 14, a regular meeting of the Senior Officials of the Northern Dimension Partners – Russia, the EU, Norway and Iceland – was held in Reykjavik, Iceland. The ND SOM was attended by the EU member states cooperating within the Northern Dimension framework, including Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Finland, France, Sweden and Estonia, as well as Belarus, which has observer status in this organisation. The Russian delegation was chaired by Igor Neverov, Director of the Foreign Ministry’s Second European Department and member of the ministry’s collegium.

The participants reviewed the achievements of the ND partnerships in environmental protection, culture, transport and logistics, public health and social welfare and agreed that all of them have moved forward towards their objectives.

The ND partners reaffirmed their shared commitment to promoting pragmatic and effective regional cooperation in the interests of all Northern European countries despite the current turbulence on the international stage. They also pointed to the importance of close interaction with other regional organisations. Their discussions bolstered the efforts to build up the ND project activity and to carry on the constructive dialogue of the partners in order to revitalise international relations in Europe as a whole.
