Meeting of the Working Group of the Russia-EU Parliamentary Cooperation Committee (PCC) in Perm

The meeting of the Working Group of the Russia-EU Parliamentary Cooperation Committee (PCC) devoted to the issues of human rights and civil society in the European Union and in Russia was held in Perm on May 27-28 with participation of Mr G.Kunadze, Head of office of Human Rights Ombudsman of the Russian Federation, and Ms T.Margolina, Commissioner for Human Rights of the Perm region. The prospects of visa regime liberalization between Russia and the EU were discussed with Mr A.Grushko, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia.
Members of the European Parliament also met with Mr O.Chirkunov, Governor of the Perm region, who described the prospects of development of the region and its international relations.
EP delegation visited the memorial museum "Perm-36", met with representatives of human rights organizations of Perm region as well as with students of Perm State University.
Following the meeting of the Working Group a joint statement
of the Co-Chairmen of the PCC was adopted. The next meeting of the PCC Working Group on the issues of security is scheduled for September 2010 in Brussels.
