In accordance with the schedule for Russia-EU political dialogue, a meeting between Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov and his EU counterparts (in the “1-plus-27” format) and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton took place on September 20 in New York within the framework of the 66th session of the UN General Assembly.
Pressing international problems were thoroughly examined at the meeting – including the conditions in Libya, Syria and Yemen as well as the situation in the Middle East peace process.
The parties also touched on some issues in Russia-EU relations, including Russia’s WTO accession, strengthening the political dialogue mechanisms, progress towards visa-free travel for Russian and EU citizens, and cooperation in crisis management.
