On March 30, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov attended a plenary meeting of the foreign ministers of the P5+1 mediators (Russia, the UK, Germany, China, the US and France) and Iran held in Lausanne. Federica Mogherini, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, was also in attendance.

The foreign ministers discussed the progress of the negotiations on settling the issues around the Iranian nuclear programme. Special attention was paid to the search for political compromise and technical solutions to issues that are hindering agreement on key aspects. The participants in the meeting noted the considerable progress made at the negotiations and reaffirmed their countries’ resolve in finding a comprehensive solution to the Iranian nuclear issue within the next few days.

During the meeting, Sergey Lavrov reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to an early comprehensive settlement. He said that all sides should be ready to agree to compromises in the interests of finding mutually acceptable solutions.

On March 30, Mr Lavrov plans to return to Moscow in accordance with his work schedule. There is a possibility he will return to Lausanne on March 31 if prospects look good for reaching an agreement.
