On 1 December, State Secretary and Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Grigory Karasin met in Brussels with Deputy Secretary General for the European External Action Service (EAS) Helga Maria Schmid and the EAS' new Managing Director for Europe and Central Asia Luis Felipe Fernández de la Peña.
The sides discussed pressing issues of Russia-EU cooperation, including issues concerning Ukraine, the situation in the Trans-Caucasus and Central Asia, and aspects of the Transnistria settlement. Both sides reaffirmed their resolve to maintain substantive and regular dialogue on these and other issues of common interest.
Mr Karasin also took part in the session of the Eighth European Russian Forum, which took place in the Europarliament building with the participation of some EU MPs and NGO representatives from Russia and EU countries.
