Russia-EU Expert Consultations on the Middle East and North Africa

On 20 November 2014 in Brussels Ambassador Sergey Vershinin, Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Director of the Middle East and North Africa Department of the Russian MFA and Director for North Africa, Middle East, Arabian Peninsula, Iran and Iraq of the European External Action Service Christian Berger held Russia-EU expert consultations on Middle East and North Africa.

The discussion focused on topical issues of the regional agenda, with emphasis on the situation in Syria and Iraq (inter alia, in view of the ISIS threat), Lebanon, Egypt, Libya, Yemen and the current situation on the Palestinian-Israeli track of the Middle East peace process. Both sides emphasized the urgency of resolving the regional conflicts by political and diplomatic means through a broad inclusive dialogue.
