On 27 September 2017 the 7th Joint Seminar of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation and the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) was held in Brussels. Cooperation between the leading civil society institutions of Russia and the EU was launched in 2008 by signing of the bilateral Memorandum of Understanding. Joint seminars were held on an annual basis. In 2014 such interaction was suspended upon EU initiative.
