Session of the Russia-EU Joint Science and Technology Cooperation Committee

On 23 June 2017 a session of the Russia-EU Joint Science and Technology Cooperation Committee (JSTCC) was held in Brussels. It was co-chaired by Mr Sergey Matveev, Director of the Department of Science and Technology of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science, and Ms Christina Russo, Director for International Cooperation of the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation of the European Commission.

The session was attended by representatives of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Economic Development, Federal Agency for Scientific Organizations, Russian Academy of Sciences, Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, the Zhukovsky Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute, Russian Fund for Basic Research, Moscow Technical University of Communications and Informatics as well as heads of several national contact points on specific cooperation tracks.

The parties agreed their approaches to the development of joint research in priority areas (aeronautics, health, research infrastructures) and discussed other promising fields of collaboration (space, environmental protection and climate change, information and communication technologies, biotechnology, nanotechnology).

The participants paid special attention to the «open science» agenda, training of young scientists and academic mobility.

The JSTCC was established under the Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Science and Technology between the Government of the Russian Federation and the European Community of 16 November 2000. The Committee alternates its annual meetings between Moscow and Brussels.
