On 23 March 2011 Sergey Mironov, Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation in the framework of his official visit to Belgium, met Martin Schulz, Chairman of the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament.
A wide range of issues covering the relationship between Russia and the EU was discussed. Sergey Mironov stressed the necessity to resolve the visa waiver issue between Russia and the EU. In his opinion, visa barriers do not only prevent efficient development of economic cooperation but also create unnecessary obstacles to contacts among law-abiding citizens of Russia and the EU.
Sergey Mironov and Martin Schulz expressed themselves in favour of further development of Russia-EU interparliamentary cooperation.
