Russian Government – European Commission meeting

On 24 February 2011 Prime Minister Vladimir Putin visited Brussels to take part in the meeting Russian Government – European Commission.

Vladimir Putin participated in the plenary session and held separate meetings with President of the European Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso and President of the European Council, Herman van Rompuy.

Prime Minister was accompanied by key ministers and heads of agencies responsible for the most important spheres of sectoral cooperation with the European Union: Igor Shuvalov, First Deputy Chairman of the Government; Sergey Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Alexey Kudrin, Deputy Chairman of the Government/Minister of Finance; Tatiana Golikova, Minister of Health and Social Development; Alexander Konovalov, Minister of Justice; Igor Levitin, Minister of Transport; Elvira Nabiullina, Minister of Economic Development; Elena Skrynnik, Minister of Agriculture; Andrey Fursenko, Minister of Education and Science; Viktor Khristenko, Minister of Industry and Trade; Sergey Shmatko, Minister of Energy; Igor Shchegolev, Minister of Communications and Mass Media. They held 11 bilateral and 4 cluster meetings with their counterparts from the European Commission.

The meeting between Sergey Lavrov, Russian Foreign Minister and Catherine Ashton, Vice-President/High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy saw the adoption of a joint Russia-EU statement on the situation in North Africa and the Middle East.

Four documents were signed during the meeting between the coordinators of Russia-EU energy dialogue Sergey Shmatko, Minister of Energy and Günther Oettinger, Member of the European Commission responsible for energy – Joint Statement On Creating a Mechanism to assess future Trends in the Gas Markets within the Framework of the EU-Russia Energy Dialogue; Joint Statement on information exchange within the EU-Russia Energy Dialogue; Memorandum on a Mechanism for Preventing and Overcoming Emergency Situations in the Energy Sector within the Framework of the EU-Russia Energy Dialogue (Early Warning Mechanism); and Common understanding on the Preparation of the Roadmap of the EU-Russia Energy Cooperation until 2050.

Following the meeting of the Russian government and the EU Commission, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and President of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso held a joint press conference.
