Russian Foreign Ministry Statement on foreign trips

During the meeting of the Presidium of the Government Coordination Council to control the incidence of the novel coronavirus infection in the Russian Federation on 25 May 2020 Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin emphasised the need to prevent a repeat of the import of the coronavirus to Russia. He advised tourists not to plan foreign trips at this stage.

The epidemiological situation makes international travel too risky for now. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has made it clear that there may be a second wave of the pandemic.

Moreover, despite the gradual resumption of work by Russian consular offices, they are still finding it difficult to assist some Russian citizens in many countries who want to come home.

We cannot forget about international transport restrictions. Today, thousands of Russian citizens all over the world are waiting for evacuation flights to Russia.

Considering these circumstances, the Foreign Ministry reaffirms the validity of its earlier recommendations to abstain from any trips beyond the borders of the Russian Federation that are not vital, such as emergency medical treatment or visits to relatives in critical condition.
