Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko in telephone conversation with EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Toivo Klaar

On 15 October 2020 a telephone conversation was held between Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Andrey Rudenko and EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Toivo Klaar at the latter’s initiative. Progress in preparations for the next round of the Geneva International Discussions on Security and Stability in the Southern Caucasus, as well as situation in Abkhazia and South Ossetia were discussed.

The officials exchanged views on the situation in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone following the declaration of humanitarian truce as of 10 October 2020 in accordance with the agreement reached by Foreign Ministers of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia at their meeting in Moscow on 9–10 October 2020. Expressing concern over the ongoing hostilities in the conflict zone and the rising death toll, the sides reaffirmed the urgency of strict implementation of all provisions of the Moscow Statement, primarily those related to the immediate ceasefire, establishment of a strong verification mechanism and intensification of substantive talks within the framework of efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs.
