On 7 May 2020  Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Africa Mikhail Bogdanov had a telephone conversation with Ambassador of the European Union to Russia Markus Ederer at the latter’s initiative.

They discussed in detail the latest developments in the foreign policy and humanitarian situation in the Middle East and North Africa, with a focus on settling the Libyan and Syrian crises as well as the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. They underscored the availability of the well-known international legal framework, including the relevant UN Security Council resolutions, for establishing a durable and comprehensive peace in that region. In this context, they pointed out the importance of coordinating the efforts of Russia and the European Union, including within the quartet of international mediators, for the sake of facilitating constructive Palestinian-Israeli talks based on a two-state solution.
