On 2 July 2021 Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko received in Moscow Deputy Secretary General for Political Affairs of the European External Action Service Enrique Mora.

The Russian side conveyed its principled assessment of recent EU decisions regarding Russia, including conclusions of the European Council of 2425 June 2021. Emphasis was placed on the pointlessness of trying to speak with Russia in the language of ultimata, threats and illegitimate unilateral restrictions. Hope was expressed that common sense would prevail and the EU would demonstrate political will and constructive and responsible readiness to cooperate on issues of common interest. Indeed, such an approach would be consistent with the aim of building a space of indivisible security, stability and prosperity in Europe.
