Within the framework of the Russia-EU political dialogue Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alexander Grushko met Deputy Executive Secretary General for political affairs of the European External Action Service Helga Schmid on 1 February in Moscow.

The parties had a thorough discussion on a wide range of issues of the Russia-EU agenda: further development of the political dialogue, prospects of a visa-free regime, cooperation in the common space of external security, as well as prospects of reinvigorating work on the New basic agreement. The Russian side emphasized the need of an interface between close Russia-EU cooperation and the progressive integration processes within the Customs Union [of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan] and the Common Economic Space.

The meeting also embraced an exchange of views on topical international issues, including the situation in the Middle East and North Africa.
