Consultations between Russia and the EU on OSCE and Council of Europe issues took place on 7 June in Brussels. The Russian delegation was led by Deputy Director of the European Multilateral Cooperation Department of the MFA Ilya Subbotin. Audrone Perkauskiene, Head of the European External Action Service (EEAS) Division Eastern Partnership, Regional Cooperation and OSCE, and Jonas Jonsson, Head of EEAS Division Multilateral Relations, represented the EU side.
The parties discussed a wide range of issues related to functioning of the OSCE and the Council of Europe, including participation of these organisations in crisis settlement in the East of Ukraine. While discussing prospects of solving the current systemic crisis in the Council of Europe the participants agreed on the need to preserve the pan-European character of the Organisation.
